The usual version of this argument asks an investor to believe in the thesis and then find a customer later. Ours runs the other way: the demand side has already produced a written signal, and US$300,000 buys one plant carried along that demand curve — all the way from seedling to fruit.
This is the stage institutional capital normally declines to engage at. Entry valuation today and entry valuation twelve months from now, once the full cycle is proven, are not the same number — so being early here is a pricing decision rather than a sentiment.
Every seedling we produce is a quantifiable unit of water saved, pesticide avoided and carbon not emitted — with a per-batch, per-module audit trail rather than a headline claim.
Strip away the leaves and the aeroponic system is a precision environment-control machine: sensors, atomisation actuators, controllers, and a scheduling algorithm. That is a capability structure hardware investors already know how to underwrite.
Our output is not only seedlings — it is a standardised production unit plus a parameter pack. Agriculture moving from craft to process is the same transition that has repeatedly been rewarded in manufacturing.
Atomisation nozzles, sensors, LED arrays and controllers all ride consumer-electronics cost and yield curves. A strategic partner able to bring that supply chain attacks our largest cost line directly — which purely financial capital cannot do.
Vietnam, Indonesia and Brazil are coffee belts and, at the same time, markets where a strategic partner's existing operations already sit. Module deployment and distribution are not two separate problems.
US$300,000 — about ¥2.13m at US$1 ≈ ¥7.1 — is a small cheque for a fund and a decisive one for us. Its purpose is narrow and deliberately unglamorous: to prove that the aeroponic process holds from the day a seedling goes in to the day a cherry comes off.
A coffee plant does not reveal what it is worth until it fruits. Nursery-stage proofs — germination rate, root density, survival — are necessary and cheap to obtain, and every hydroponic and tissue-culture competitor can show them. They are not the question a buyer of specialty green beans is actually asking.
The question is whether the cup, the yield per plant and the cost per viable plant still hold once the plant has been carried through flowering, cherry set and ripening under an atomised root zone. That is a twelve-to-eighteen month observation with no shortcut, and it is exactly the window this tranche funds.
US$300,000 does not build the commercial module — at ≈¥3m capex, that is a later, larger decision. It buys the evidence that makes that later decision cheap to take. We chose this size deliberately: it is below the threshold at which a fund needs a new investment committee thesis, and above the threshold at which a trial can be run honestly.
If the trial field works, the follow-on conversation is about capacity and supply. If it does not, the loss is one small cheque and one honest memo — and you have learned something about the segment that no amount of desk research would have given you.

The buyer side of this segment is already operating at scale: specialty chains selling at ¥15–20 a cup and scaling through small franchise units, plus plantation and replanting programmes that must replace aging trees. Our own external demand evidence is documented rather than modelled — in June 2026, at the Kunming coffee expo, we obtained a 1,000-mu letter of intent to purchase from a planting-side buyer.
That is what changes this from a technology bet into a validation programme with an identified counterparty. No supply agreement, understanding or commitment exists today — the letter of intent is an intention, not an order.
the chain sells specialty coffee at ¥15–20 a cup and scales through small franchise units. That model works beautifully at 300 stores and becomes arithmetic at 1,000 and 5,000: every new store is a permanent new claim on specialty-grade green beans, on identical flavour parameters, on a price the franchisee can still live with.
Franchise expansion is a demand engine. It is also, in this segment, a supply-chain liability — and the industry's own research says so: specialty demand is rising faster than specialty-grade supply, and the segment's real moat is supply-chain integration, cost control and consistent quality, not store count.
We are not a plantation or a trading house with a story. We are a production system, and we would define our role by what comes out of it rather than by what we call ourselves.
"High-value" here means the high end of the usable range, not the rarest lot in the world. the chain does not need a Cup of Excellence auction winner. It needs an eighty-plus cup with an industrial guarantee behind it — which is a far larger market, and one we can actually serve at volume.
Overclaiming here would be the fastest way to lose your team's trust, so we will draw the line precisely.
So the honest phrasing is not "we will supply the chain." It is: we are a candidate upstream that the chain can test with, at a size the chain can afford, on a timeline our own milestone ladder can actually hit.
The trial field, stated plainly. US$300,000 buys one instrumented bay and the agronomy to run a coffee plant from seedling through flowering to fruit, plus the third-party verification that turns the result into evidence rather than a claim. It is deliberately sized below an investment-committee threshold and above the cost of an honest trial. If it works, the same money that bought a return also bought your portfolio a validated supply-chain position, decided before the chain has to commit to a supply contract, before we have to commit to capacity, and while the patent is still in examination. If it does not, you have bought information at seed-round pricing, and the bay, the parameter library and the patent family remain separable assets.

Same table, seen from your side: a decision to commit or decline a future supply relationship, made on evidence and on your own terms, for US$300,000 — a fraction of the equity you would need to acquire the same capability outright. FX reference US$1 ≈ ¥7.1, so US$300,000 ≈ ¥2.13m. Note also that no supply agreement, understanding or commitment currently exists between our company and any specialty-coffee chain; our only external demand evidence to date is the 1,000-mu letter of intent obtained in June 2026.
